About this data
What is the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood)?
The Scottish Parliament, also known as Holyrood, is the devolved legislature of Scotland. It has 129 Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) elected using the Additional Member System (AMS), with 73 constituency MSPs and 56 regional list MSPs.
How is the polling average calculated?
The headline figures average the last five polls fielded since the 7 May 2026 election, or every post-election poll while fewer than five have been published. The trend chart uses a trailing 5-poll moving average, calculated separately either side of the election so post-election polls are never averaged with pre-election ones.
What is the difference between constituency and regional polls?
Voters cast two votes. The constituency vote elects 73 MSPs by first-past-the-post. The regional list vote elects 56 MSPs, seven in each of eight regions, using the D'Hondt method. Pollsters ask both questions and the answers often differ.
How does Holyrood polling differ from Westminster polling?
Holyrood polls ask how people would vote in a Scottish Parliament election, which can differ from how they would vote in a UK general election. The Additional Member System also means seats follow vote share more closely than under Westminster's first-past-the-post.
How often are Holyrood polls released?
Less often than Westminster polls. Polling was frequent in the run-up to the May 2026 election and has been sparse since. The next Scottish Parliament election is due in May 2031.
