About this data
What is the Senedd (Welsh Parliament)?
The Senedd, formerly the National Assembly for Wales, is the devolved legislature of Wales. At the 7 May 2026 election it grew from 60 to 96 Members of the Senedd (MSs), elected by closed-list proportional representation: 16 constituencies each returning six members by the D'Hondt method.
How is the polling average calculated?
The headline figures average the last five polls fielded since the 7 May 2026 election, or every post-election poll while fewer than five have been published. The trend chart uses a trailing 5-poll moving average, calculated separately either side of the election so post-election polls are never averaged with pre-election ones.
How does Senedd polling differ from Westminster polling?
Senedd polls ask how people would vote in a Welsh Parliament election, which can differ from how they would vote in a UK general election. Under the Senedd's proportional system seats follow vote share closely, so the same poll produces a very different seat picture from Westminster's first-past-the-post.
What changed at the 2026 election?
The 2026 election was the first under the 96-seat closed-list system, replacing the 60-member Additional Member System used from 1999 to 2021. Seat totals are therefore not comparable with earlier Senedd elections, and polls from before 2024 were asked about a different system.
How often are Senedd polls released?
Less often than Westminster polls. Polling was frequent in the run-up to the 7 May 2026 election and has been sparse since. The next Senedd election is due in May 2030.
